Helpful Tips: Teaching Swimming Can Be a Challenging and Rewarding Career if you don't mind the hot sun during the day time and the chill during the evening time and if you love and enjoy playing with toddlers and kids. But most of all , you need to have lots of patience. You derive great sense of satisfaction when your students gradually know how to swim on their own. But it can be very challenging as every child has different levels of motor skill and ability. So you need to adapt accordingly to their perceived fears of water and levels of progression, social behaviors, etc. As a salaried or employed Swim Teacher, you will probably be paid about $25 per hour depending on experience and the size of the class. So it make sense to teach for at least 2 hours to make your trip to the swimming pool worthwhile. For 2 hours, you are paid $50 which is equivalent to 8 hours pay for some other hourly rated jobs. But initially you will most likely be paid lower as a trainee as you are learning and probably be assisting the Coach during the lessons. But hey, anything more than $6 per hour is good money. It can be lucrative if you are a good coach and you eventually branch out on your own and have students of your own. Let's say you charge an average of $100 per month per student and you have 30 students to teach - that will make you $3000 per month and that's not bad at all.
